DELTA®-DRAIN: Sizes, Applications, Installation & Where to Buy

Posted by Spycor Building on Aug 14th 2026

DELTA-DRAIN is a two-layer dimpled drainage membrane manufactured by Dörken Systems, designed to manage below-grade water, relieve hydrostatic pressure, and protect foundation waterproofing during backfill. It's available in 6' and 8' wide residential rolls — the largest drainboard rolls on the market — plus a heavy-duty HI-X series for deep and commercial installations. Spycor Building Products stocks both 6' and 8' DELTA-DRAIN rolls, ready to ship.

What Is DELTA-DRAIN?

DELTA-DRAIN is a drainage composite manufactured by Dörken Systems. It's a two-layer dimpled membrane: a drainage core made of recycled polypropylene, formed into a dimple pattern, with a Typar® polypropylene geotextile heat-bonded to the dimple crowns.

Installed against a foundation or retaining wall, the dimpled core creates a continuous drainage plane that channels groundwater down to the footing perimeter, while the geotextile filters out soil particles so the flow channels don't clog. The result is two things a foundation needs at once: relief from hydrostatic pressure — the force that cracks walls and drives water through gaps — and physical protection for the waterproofing layer underneath during backfill.

DELTA-DRAIN is suitable for almost any residential or light commercial application and is typically installed in conjunction with a liquid- or sheet-applied waterproofing membrane.

DELTA-DRAIN Sizes

The residential DELTA-DRAIN line comes in two roll sizes, both sized for fast, low-waste installation on typical foundation walls:

DELTA-DRAIN Size Roll Dimensions Coverage Best For
DELTA-DRAIN 6-ft 6' x 65.6' 393.6 sq ft per roll Foundation walls where a 6-ft width fits the project layout
DELTA-DRAIN 8-ft 8' x 65.6' 524.8 sq ft per roll Taller foundation walls and projects needing more coverage per roll

Need a heavy-duty commercial drainboard instead? Dörken also manufactures the DELTA-DRAIN HI-X series (2000, 6000, 6200, 9000) for deeper installations and higher-load commercial applications — see Heavy-Duty DELTA-DRAIN Options below.

DELTA-DRAIN 6 ft vs. 8 ft: Which Size Should You Buy?

Both standard DELTA-DRAIN roll sizes provide the same core drainage performance — the difference is roll width and coverage per roll. The 6' x 65.6' roll covers 393.6 sq ft; the 8' x 65.6' roll covers 524.8 sq ft. The right size depends mainly on your foundation wall height and total coverage needed: wider rolls mean fewer seams and less overlap across a large wall, which translates directly into less labor and material waste on the job.

Where to Buy DELTA-DRAIN

Spycor Building Products stocks DELTA-DRAIN in both standard roll sizes, ready to ship:

[Confirm current minimum order quantity before publishing — the 6-ft and 8-ft product pages currently show inconsistent minimums and should be reconciled first.]

What Is DELTA-DRAIN Used For?

Residential foundation walls. The most common application: installed against poured concrete or block foundation walls before backfill, directing water away from the structure and down to the footing drain.

Hillside & sloped-lot construction. DELTA-DRAIN's standard series is well suited to hillside residential construction, where grade challenges increase hydrostatic pressure risk.

Retaining walls. Installed behind retaining walls to prevent water and soil pressure buildup that would otherwise stress the wall structure over time.

ICF foundations & light commercial construction. Foundation walls, below-grade parking structures, and similar applications where drainage capacity and compressive strength both matter.

DELTA-DRAIN vs. DELTA-MS: What's the Difference?

DELTA-DRAIN DELTA-MS
Type Dimpled drainboard with bonded geotextile Impermeable dimpled membrane
Primary function Controls below-grade water flow and protects waterproofing Provides a capillary break and drainage path
Typical use Foundation walls, retaining walls, hillside construction Below-grade waterproofing and moisture protection

Both products are part of Dörken's below-grade drainage system and are often specified together — see DELTA-MS availability for the matching membrane.

How to Install DELTA-DRAIN

  1. Orient the board correctly. The dimpled core sits against the wall surface; the geotextile faces out. On soldier pile or lagging wall applications, the geotextile side faces the lagging instead.

  2. Fasten to the wall. Secure the drainage composite with compatible fasteners in a "W" pattern roughly 12" on center, with 4"–6" between rows.

  3. Overlap seams. Where rolls meet, overlap the dimpled core and geotextile per manufacturer spec to maintain a continuous drainage plane — this is where the wider 6'/8' rolls save real labor, since there are fewer seams to manage.

  4. Terminate properly at grade and footing. Tie the board into the footing drain system at the base and terminate cleanly at grade to keep surface water from getting behind the board.

  5. Backfill carefully. The dimpled core is built to withstand backfill loading, but avoid dropping sharp or oversized material directly onto the board.

Full manufacturer installation instructions are available from Dörken and linked on each Spycor product page.

Heavy-Duty DELTA-DRAIN Options {#heavy-duty-options}

For deeper foundations, soldier pile/lagging walls, or high hydrostatic-load conditions, Dörken manufactures a commercial-grade HI-X series:

These are separate product lines from the standard 6'/8' residential rolls covered above — contact Spycor for current availability and specs.

DELTA-DRAIN FAQ

What is DELTA-DRAIN?
A two-layer dimpled drainage membrane manufactured by Dörken Systems, used to control below-grade water and protect foundation waterproofing.

Who manufactures DELTA-DRAIN?
Dörken Systems Inc., a German-founded building envelope manufacturer.

What is DELTA-DRAIN used for?
Foundation walls, retaining walls, hillside construction, ICF foundations, and light commercial below-grade drainage.

What sizes does DELTA-DRAIN come in?
Standard residential rolls are 6' x 65.6' (393.6 sq ft) and 8' x 65.6' (524.8 sq ft). A commercial HI-X series is also available for deeper installations.

What is the difference between 6-ft and 8-ft DELTA-DRAIN?
Both provide the same drainage performance; the 8-ft roll covers more area per roll and reduces the number of seams on taller or larger walls.

How many square feet are in a roll of DELTA-DRAIN?
393.6 sq ft for the 6-ft roll; 524.8 sq ft for the 8-ft roll.

Does DELTA-DRAIN replace foundation waterproofing?
DELTA-DRAIN is designed to provide drainage and protect the waterproofing layer during backfill — it's typically installed alongside a liquid- or sheet-applied waterproofing membrane rather than as a full substitute.

What is the difference between DELTA-DRAIN and DELTA-MS?
DELTA-DRAIN is a dimpled drainboard that channels water and protects waterproofing; DELTA-MS is an impermeable dimpled membrane that provides a capillary break and drainage path. They're often specified together.

How is DELTA-DRAIN installed?
Fastened to the wall with the dimpled core facing the wall surface, using a "W" fastening pattern, with seams overlapped and the board terminated cleanly at grade.

Where can I buy DELTA-DRAIN?
Spycor Building Products stocks both 6' and 8' DELTA-DRAIN rolls — see the links above for current availability.
